 echnical or fastest horizontal project, but not so much money. Our experie
 nce teaches that there are three broad categories of &ldquo\;Popular Pitfa
 lls&rdquo\;, and there are strategies to mitigate these risks.\n\n \n\nThe
  most &ldquo\;Popular Pitfalls&rdquo\; fall into three general categories:
  1) Over simplification of pre-drill subsurface geologic uncertainty and u
 ndue confidence in the pre-drill geologic model\; 2) Over-confidence in th
 e accuracy and completeness of while-drill data, including MWD-LWD logs, d
 irectional surveys, and the depth-specificity of mudlog data\; 3) Procedur
 al errors by the geosteering decision-maker, e.g. failure to account for w
 ell path positional uncertainty, fruitless over-steering, imprecise commun
 ications with drillers.\n\n \n\nSeveral real-well examples will be display
 ed.\n\n \n\nRemedies for these maladies are not entirely fool proof, but c
 osts can be substantially controlled and in-target percentage can be great
 ly improved by applying work flows which recognize and sometimes repair th
 ese problem, or at least hedge against the unavoidable uncertainties.\n\n\
