nModern Marginal Marine Clastic Depositional Systems\n\nby Dr. Walter (Jer
ry) Sexton\n\n \n\nREGISTRATION\n\n \n\nThe eight hour seminar will cover
a variety of modern clastic depositional systems of shallow marine setting
 s. The lectures will focus on sedimentary processes of deposition and thei
r resultant three-dimensional characteristics. The principal area presente
d will be the central coastline of South Carolina. Emphasis will be placed
on Holocene clastic deposits which were deposited within the past 4,000 y
ears.\n\nThe focus on the three-dimensional characteristics of these depos
itional systems will be used to demonstrate the lateral and vertical varia
bility of facies. Lateral variability of facies will be stressed in relati
on to conventional and resource play horizontal drilling programs. Additio
nally, the evolution of Quaternary strata will be presented in a chronostr
atigraphic context. Abundant subsurface data will be presented, providing
lithogic interpretations for the modern depositional systems. This seminar
will include a review of the following: sediment provenance to beaches an
d beach processes, barrier islands (shoreface) and the back barrier, tidal
inlets and tidal deltas, shelf sedimentation and estuaries.\n\n\n\nCommen
