itle: Fluvial Stratigraphy Convention Short Course\nStart Date / Time: Apr
  10, 2016 08:00 AM US/Central\nLocation: \nShort Course: Fluvial Stratigra
phy, April 10, 2016 \nJohn Holbrook - Professor of Geology at Texas Chri
stian University\nCovers wide range of topics needed to identify, correlat
e, and interpret fluvial reservoirs and encasing non-reservoir units. This
discussion will provide participants with the foundations for understandi
ng and predicting the geometry, connectivity, and permeability trends of f
luvial reservoirs systems at the scale of boreholes, fields, and basins.\n
Who Should Attend\nGeologists, geophysicists, and engineers seeking techni
ques for improved subsurface mapping and more accurate prediction of litho
logy/porosity distribution within fluvial reservoir intervals that are dep
icted in seismic, borehole, and outcrop data sets. Concepts are taught fro
m base principles so no prerequisites are required. An entry-level underst
anding of Geology is helpful.\nObjectivesUpon completion of the course, pa
rticipants will gain an overview of the river processes that generate stra
ta as well as acquire a range of techniques for mapping and interpretation
of fluvial rock. Participants will attain the following skills.\n\nRelate
surficial fluvial processes to specific rock units.\nEvaluate fluvial pre
 servation in a &ldquo\;river-to-rock&rdquo\; context.\nQuickly recognize f
luvial lithofacies in core and outcrop.\nIdentify and constrain dimensions
of reservoir (e.g., bars, channel belts, etc) and non-reservoir (e.g. lak
e, floodbasin, etc.) architectural elements in well-logs, core, seismic, a
nd outcrop.\nPlace reservoir elements into their correct position within t
he fluvial architectural hierarchy (e.g. channel-fill vs. channel belt vs.
valley fill).\nImprove reservoir evaluations through a gained understandi
ng of the relationships between locally preserved net to gross and broader
basin processes.\nEstimate heterogeneity and connectivity between and wit
hin reservoirs.\nCorrelate fluvial strata at the basin scale.\n\nCourse Co
ntent\nThe course is subdivided into six components that each convey a spe
cific aspect of fluvial stratigraphy and each build sequentially upon know
ledge gained from the preceding components. These components are, in order
, fluvial geomorphology, fluvial facies, fluvial architecture, seismic geo
morphology, heterogeneity and connectivity, and correlation.\n\n--- This i
