The Southwest Section (SWS-AAPG) Board of Directors is pleased to announce a joint initiative with Midland College’s Petroleum Profession Development Center (PPDC) designed to assist our unemployed fellow geoscientists. We are offering a 50% tuition discount for all recently laid-off (2014-2016) professional SWS-AAPG members* who take continuing education courses at PPDC between now and August 31, 2017. Upcoming PPDC classes are listed online at ce.midland.edu/ppdc. PPDC Director Curtis Helms will field questions about classes or how to take advantage of the tuition discount. Contact him at chelms@midland.edu or (432) 683-2832 ext. 203.

In order to assist members who live outside of the Midland / Odessa Area, SWS-AAPG is also offering travel funds to cover a portion of the extra costs borne by our members in other areas of the Section. All out-of-area eligible students will receive $50 to be used towards gas and $50 per hotel night (starting on the night before the first day of class and excluding the last day of class).

Funding is limited on both the tuition and travel sides, and will be restricted to one scholarship per student, and a maximum of $2,500 per student. Scholarships will be distributed on a “first-come, first-served” basis.

If you have any questions regarding SWS-AAPG in general or in regard to this program, please contact President Mike Raines at mike.raines@whiting.com or Past President Darrell Mauldin at Darrell@mercuryoperating.com.

Please help spread the word that help is available in this troubled time,

Michael A. Raines
President, 2016-2017
